China by Train

China is a country that, in our part of the world, is often discussed through simplified narratives that leave little room for its true complexity. It is hard not to admire how much China has changed over the last 30 years, and how profoundly it has lifted its people economically. My time in China was limited to three weeks of business travel, which is unfortunately completely insufficient time for one to get to know even a fraction of what this enormous country has to offer. What I can offer instead is a documentary insight into thousands of kilometers traveled by train through the countryside and agglomerations of the eastern coast. Unedited, without commentary - simply as I saw them through the window of a moving train.

CZ: Čína je obrovská země, jejíž rozmanitost u nás opravdu vnímá jenom málokdo, a kterou člověk může jenom těžko pochopit skrz pár článků, vět nebo titulků. Je těžký neobdivovat, jak moc se Čína za posledních 30 let proměnila a jak výrazně dokázala ekonomicky pozvednout svůj národ. Můj pobyt v Číně se smrsknul na 3 týdny pracovních cest, což je bohužel naprosto nedostatečná doba pro to, aby člověk poznal byť jenom její zlomek - ať už fyzicky, nebo kulturně. Co ale dokážu nabídnout je dokumentární vhled do tisíců procestovaných kilometrů vlakem po venkově a aglomeracích východního pobřeží. Neupraveně, bez komentáře - prostě tak, jak jsem je viděl z okna jednoucího vlaku.
